Research overview
Pinealon is a three-amino-acid peptide (Glu-Asp-Arg) from the Khavinson programme of research into very short peptides derived from tissue extracts. Cell studies have looked at whether it protects neurons under oxidative or low-oxygen stress. The programme proposes that peptides this short act by binding DNA directly and changing gene activity — a mechanism that is still debated in the literature.
